Toe-tips
for 'comfy' trips.
 Most
cyclists who come to the Cape and Islands with their bikes (and most bike store
owners) are careful to see that they're in good repair and have had a fresh tune-up. However,
many cyclists overlook an important factor in their cycling enjoyment.-- their
own feet. Are your feet in good shape? Do they need a tune-up? Remember that
your feet should be nice and clean (No, toe-jam is not a lubricant) and you should
wear proper cycling shoes and sox.
Do your toe-nails need to be clipped
so they don't keep nudging their neighbor and cause foot pain? As silly as this
sounds, you'll thank me for this tip. If you ignore it -- and find yourself out
there on the bike trail crying "Medic! Medic!" -- remember what you
read here. Make sure you clip your toe-nails! It's also good advice to carry
a small first-aid kit when you're on the bike trail. You never know when you're
going to meet up with a squirrel that has a splinter in its foot -- or a robin
who's been in a bout with "Robo-worm!" And, yes, -- you might discover
that your toes are inflamed by contact with your toe-nails. I'm
talking from experience. Now, after every winter's hibernation, I look at my feet
to see that my toes are lined up in the proper order -- and on the right feet
-- then meticulously check the condition of my toe-nails.
As you can see
in this un-retouched photo, I'm in need of a good clipping, manicure -- and a
foot shave.

So,
I proceed accordingly. Thus far, my cycling has been free of toe pain. And my
feet are really happy for the special care I've given them. So happy, that right
now they're guiding me over to the ice cream stand. I love you, feet. ---
